A “Real” Moment

Our son born at 25 weeks 2 days gestation.

I laid in bed for the better part of two hours tonight unable to sleep before I got up to write this. I don’t think there has been a time in my life when I have felt so alone. As I laid in bed I couldn’t help but think: why doesn’t anyone understand? Or do they, and just not care? Perhaps they don’t know? So here it is, I’m going to let my girl (emotions) out for a post tonight.

Sheep Vs. Sheep

In an effort to better understand scripture I began a study this morning on sheep. Sheep? Yes, sheep. Jesus consistently refers to his followers as sheep. He also references the lost as goats, a study I plan to take on as well. The word sheep is used 40 times in the New Testament alone. It’s used over 180 times throughout the Bible. The word is not always used in reference to a believer, but it quite frequently is.

Christians and Sports – Do You Support the Team?

There was a time in my life when I could list virtually every hockey player on the North Stars team. Of course I was just a kid. Names like Dino Ciccarelli, Neal Broten, and Mike Modano were easily remembered. Games played, goals, and positions, were among the many stats I filled my mind with. I was deeply disappointed, and as a result gave up watching hockey, when the Stars moved to Texas.

What is Christianity?

I started writing a post with the preliminary title: “is this ministry” in which I am beginning to examine the things we call ministry. I am seeking to ascertain if what we call “ministry” is really all that we claim it to be, or if it is just our modernized pseudo-christian secular humanist way of trying to earn our salvation and/or appear pious. After doing some writing on that subject I realized that was a little too in depth a subject to tackle without a strong foundation. That foundation is this post (I hope.)

The Servant’s Heart

Last night I went to an event held by a local church with my family and we had a wonderful time. There was food, hay rides, bonfires, and plenty of chatting. I had a really good time. I think most people, including me, would consider the event a success. The local church – the congregation – was successful in providing a good time to the people in their community.

As the evening rolled on I kept looking around and thinking: there are all these people gathered together, is anyone going to share the Gospel? I continued to think about it as the evening progressed and dark started to set in, I started to wonder: should I just stand up on one of these tables and start preaching the Gospel? It wasn’t my event, wasn’t my churches event, and if I’m honest, fear won out.

Why I Will Give Money to the Homeless

Lately I have seen a great many posts which recognize the homeless in our communities. It seems everyone has an opinion on what to do when you encounter them yet nobody seems to be going to the scriptures. At least it doesn’t seem to me that scripture matches what people are claiming we should or should not do with or for them.

Done Trying to Please Man

matt1028Despite the massive amount of work I was doing on my server today I manged to sit down and do some reading of scripture. I have gone through a spell recently where a few people were upset around me and I find myself trying to cool off, bite my tongue, and keep to myself. As I came across Matthew 10 I was ashamed of myself.

In Matthew 10, Jesus is sending the Apostles out to preach to God’s lost sheep – Israel. He gives them instructions about where they should go, and tells them that those who reject them, failing to offer them a place to stay will be worse off than the city of Sodom and Gomorrah on judgment day. But in verse 16 he really starts to spell it out. “… I’m sending you out as sheep among wolves…”

In The Beginning…

I have blogged for several years, but have never done anything serious with it. Most of my posts have been under pseudonyms. Starting this blog came about because a friend of mine and I share some common interests, and we thought we could work together to provide some entertainment and possibly a service. Our faith is a primary part of our life, and you can expect to see a lot of posting along that line. But we also enjoy technology. Perhaps, as time goes on we can find a few more writers to put some work into things. For now, it’s the two of us pounding out the content.
